The Ghana Red Cross Society has unveiled plans to establish a 100-bed international hospital in Ghana, as part of efforts to expand its humanitarian and healthcare interventions across the country.
The announcement was made during a press conference held to outline activities for the 2025 World Red Cross Day, scheduled for April 8.
Addressing the media, the President of the Society, Edward Donkor, highlighted the organization’s achievements and impact, particularly in delivering life-saving services and supporting vulnerable communities nationwide.
He noted that this year’s commemoration would go beyond ceremonial activities, featuring a series of social intervention programmes aimed at directly improving lives.
“This year’s event will be highly impactful, as it is designed to bring meaningful change to communities through targeted interventions,” he said.
Mr. Donkor reiterated that the core mission of the Society remains the promotion of humanity and solidarity, urging Ghanaians to embrace a culture of mutual support and responsibility.
As part of the activities, he disclosed that a nationwide blood donation exercise would be held to support healthcare delivery, especially in hospitals facing critical shortages.
He also called on the media to amplify the work of the Red Cross, stressing the need for sustained public education on its humanitarian initiatives and their benefits to society.
