Government to settle 1bn debt to Independent Power Producers

The Ministry of Energy has said that government is in the process of settling the one billion debt it owes the Independent Power Producers.

Head of Communications at the Ministry, Nana Oppong Damoah told GBC News that government has scheduled payment arrangements with the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) at the satisfaction of the IPPs hence, government does not expect them to withdraw their services soon.

He said government was surprised at the notice from the Chamber of Independent Power Producers, Distributors and Bulk Consumers (CIPDIB-Ghana), that it would withdraw its services over the debt.

Nana Damoah did not mention much has being paid so far, but said that the IPPs were happy about government’s arrangement for the debt payment.
