Tranz Global Services, a Texas-based private cargo services provider, in partnership with Numero Un, have announced a direct chartered flight service from Accra to London starting August 14, 2022.
Cost of the chartered direct flight service according to Tranz Global Services and Numero Un, will be below the prevailing market price of about $4,000 offered by airlines in the country plying the same Accra-London route.
The chartered flight service to be offered by Tranz Global, is to help meet the growing but largely underserved demand for direct travels from Accra to London and vice versa by travellers.
At the launch of the direct chartered flight service, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tranz Global, Thomas Coleman, noted that Tranz Global through the direct flight service is seeking to provide excellent travel experience and convenience for travellers, particularly Ghanaian travellers going to Britain.
Due to the Covid pandemic, thousands of flights have been cancelled, there are long queues at airports and flights have become more chaotic. But we want to help travellers escape the long queues and all the inconvenience that comes with flights (sic).
“Also, despite the growing demand for direct flights from Accra to London, there has been a cut back on Accra-London flights by airlines currently providing that service and so there is a huge demand gap which we want to fill with our chartered direct flight services,” Coleman remarked.
Present at the launch to show government’s support for the chartered flight service by Tranz Global, was the Director in Charge of Beyond The Return, the Deputy Director of Diaspora Affairs at the Office of the Presidency, and a representative from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.
Government’s support for the chartered flight service from Accra to London, New York and Toronto and vice versa, is in furtherance to boosting tourist visits (about 2 million tourist visitors) into the country, particularly in the run up to the Christmas festivities with the goal of raising some $4bn in revenue.
The direct chartered flights to London, New York and Toronto will be available six times a week.
