Ghanaian households can begin enjoying automatic DStv upgrades, more channels, and major cost savings from October 1, 2025, following a landmark subscription deal struck between the government and MultiChoice Africa.
The new package delivers value savings between 33% and 50% across all bouquets, easing pressure on households struggling with rising living costs. Under the new structure, Family package customers will be automatically upgraded to the Access bouquet, worth GHC 99, and get 35 extra channels, including live football matches. Compact subscribers will be upgraded to Compact Plus, Compact Plus customers will be upgraded to Premium, and Premium subscribers will retain their full content library and qualify for competitions to win trips to watch live EPL matches in the UK.
MultiChoice has also committed to a GHC 555 subsidy for new customers purchasing the Zappa decoder and dish kit, in line with efforts to boost affordability and access.
The Minister of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, described the deal as a “consumer relief breakthrough” that exceeds the government’s initial demand for a 30% cut in subscription costs.
The minister also revealed that unauthorized foreign decoders, including some Nigerian devices, have already been blocked, with further enforcement planned to protect Ghanaian consumers and the integrity of DStv services. He hailed the agreement as a milestone in Ghana’s consumer protection agenda, achieved after months of tough negotiations.
This agreement is not just about pay-TV. It is about protecting consumers, reducing household costs, and ensuring that digital entertainment services operate in a competitive and sustainable environment,” he said.
