The Regional Environmental Health Officer, Cynthia Sekyere, has appealed with Zoomlion to extend its expertise in liquid waste management to the region to help management in the region.
Sekyere expressed concern over the rising cases of typhoid in the region, with approximately 6,000 cases reported in the first quarter of 2025 alone. She attributed the prevalence of the disease to poor liquid waste management practices.
We are pleading with Zoomlion to come to our region, help us with well-constructed, engineered liquid waste management, for us to do away with communicable diseases such as typhoid in our region,” Sekyere urged.
Public Health Concern
The Regional Environmental Health Officer emphasized that the situation is a public health concern requiring immediate attention. “It’s a public health concern. And so we are pleading to Zoomlion to come to our aid,” Sekyere said.
According to Sekyere, the region generates over 25,000 tonnes of waste annually, and poor waste management practices contribute to the spread of communicable diseases.
Commending Zoomlion for managing the solid waste in the region
Had it not been for Zoomlion, all this waste would still be in our homes,” Sekyere said.
The General Manager for Zoomlion Private Services Limited, Solomon Denyo, responding to the plea noted that, it is the vision of the company to establish liquid waste treatment plant across all the 16 regions and management will certainly consider the establishment in the region.
Currently, the company operates five liquid waste treatment plants in Accra (2), Kumasi. Takoradi and Tamale.
The region’s plea to Zoomlion highlights the need for effective waste management practices to prevent the spread of diseases and promote a healthy environment.
