687 basic schools undergoing disinfection in Upper West

About 687 basic schools are currently undergoing disinfection and fumigation in the Wa Municipality of the Upper West Region.

The exercise is aimed at ridding off disease-causing organisms in the schools environment ahead of the return of pupils.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his 21st Covid address to the nation directed schools from Kindergarten to tertiary level to be fumigated and disinfected.

The Upper West exercise which commenced Friday, January 8, 2021, at Tendamba Primary ‘A’ in Wa was spearheaded by Zoomlion Ghana Limited in partnership with the Ministry of Education (MoE).

Speaking to the media at the premises of Tendamba Primary ‘A’, the Head teacher, Mr Payne Pwazaga, indicated the school’s readiness to welcome back the pupils.
According to him, his interactions with many of his school children showed that they were very eager to return to the classroom.

He, therefore, appealed for extra chairs to augment the few ones they had in stock.

At the Nuriya Islamic Primary, the Head teacher, Bomansaan Prudence, commended Zoomlion for its efforts to support the central government to fight Covid-19, especially in schools.

We know that it’s not going to be easy to get the pupils to appreciate earlier and current lessons,” she said.

On that score, she encouraged parents to collaborate with the teachers to ensure pupils get the benefit of teaching and learning.

At the Wa Methodist School of the Blind, the Headmistress, Rev Grace Amoako, bemoaned the lack of infrastructure facilities in the school.

According to her, the school did not befit the standard for physically challenged persons.

She called on individuals and corporate organisations to come to the aid of the students.

The Upper West Regional General Manager of Zoomlion, Mr Emmanuel Volzuuri, called on parents to impress upon their children to wear nose mask and also wash their hands regularly.

He said the company had fast tracked the exercise to enable the school children go back to school as scheduled.

Nuriya Islamic Primary & JHS, Fountain Gate International School, One Touch Basic & Primary School and St. Paul’s Methodist Primary &JHS, 31 December KG, Nuria E/A KG, Tendamba KG, Tendamba Primary ‘B’ and Huriya KG were some of the schools that benefited from the exercise.
