2020 elections: Aspiring MP to train 12000 youth in ICT

The aspiring Member of Parliament for the New Juaben South constituency, Martin Otu Offei, has promised to help train over 12,000 young adults in the field of Information, Communication and Technology and related fields within four years of becoming MP.

The NDC parliamentary hopeful also promised to provide laptops to the trainees to aid their training as well as a start-up tool.

Offei, who is a lecturer at the Koforidua Technical University and one of the founders of computer science faculty in technical universities in Ghana, believes that Ghanaian youth are smart and hard working but needs a little push.

When we give young people the skills and competence, they will do wonders and Ghanaian youth are smart people who need little push,” he stressed.

Offei, speaking in an interview, also promised to enrol about 15,000 young people in his constituency into a structured apprenticeship programme for free. He believes this will equip them with the necessary skills to develop themselves as well as the nation.

Just last week, I helped about 100 people into similar apprenticeship programme so I know what I am proposing,” he mentioned.

According to the aspiring MP, his interaction with the electorates indicates that they are willing to give him a chance to facilitate development in the constituency.

Offei, who is hopeful that he will be declared the MP elect for the new Juaben South constituency said “The electorates are able to relate and associate better with me and they can identify their interest with me and they know that I can do the work.”

He believes the electorates have seen a totally different leadership skills from him as compared with his competitors. He has also assured that he will not shirk his open and responsible leadership skills even after he becomes the MP.

To be sure, the NDC aspiring MP will set up an MP office in the constituency within his first 100 days to enable the electorate continue to interact with him as an MP and not as a political party representative.

When people queue to vote for you, you have to make yourself available and be responsible to them,” he stressed.

The MP hopeful who is currently grading some deplorable roads leading to tourism sites in the constituency, also pledged to help to develop other tourism sites within Koforidua.
