Zoomlion secures land genuinely for waste treatment plant- Sewfi MCE

The Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Chief Executive, Louis Owusu Agyepong, has assured a joint Parliamentary Select Committee of the proper acquisition of land by the Zoomlion Ghana Limited for the construction of the integrated solid and liquid waste treatment plant in the Western North Region.

Answering questions from members of the Select Committee, the MCE said “the land has been property acquired and most of the documentations have been finalized”.

He added that the Chiefs, the Assembly and other stakeholders were all consulted on the acquisition of land which paved way for the construction of the project.

Assembly was deeply involved in all the activities leading to the start of construction works,” he noted

Louis Owusu Agyepong made these known to the a joint Parliamentary Select Committee who paid a working visit to the Western North Region to abreast themselves with ongoing developmental projects.

Members of the Select Committee visited the 80-acre construction site of the solid and liquid waste treatment plant Aboa onidua at Sewfi Wiawso.

According to the Lead Consultant on the project, Ing. Felix Atsrim, the sub structures are 80% complete and the entire project is expected to be completed in August this year.

On his part, the Western North Zonal Manager of Zoomlion Ghana limited, Isaac Bamfo, announced that his company will provide additional 200 tricycles to support the collection of waste in the western north region.

The waste collected will feed into the integrated solid and liquid waste treatment plant which is currently under construction at Aboa onidua at Sewfi Wiawso in the Western North region.

According to him, the introduction of the additional tricycles will help improve the sanitation situation of the region since the inhabitants will no longer have to dispose of their rubbish indiscriminately.

It has become important to support the region with the tricycles to collect rubbish since the heavy-duty trucks are unable to enter every cranny,” he explained.

The 250-tonnes daily capacity solid waste treatment plant which, will employ 100 people directly and 500 indirectly, will have facilities for plastic waste recycling, finished products, and spare parts, compost, and sorting workshops, among others.

The plant will serve Sefwi, Juaboso, Boodi, Bibiani among others.
