World Press Freedom Day: Journalists tour Winmat Publishers

As part of activities to mark this year’s World Press Freedom Day, members of the Institute of Financial and Economic Journalists (IFEJ) have embarked on a facility visit to Winmat Publishers Limited for first-hand knowledge of the publishing industry.

This year’s World Press Free Day which falls on Wednesday, May 3 is on the theme “Shaping the future of rights: Freedom of expression as driver for all other human rights.”

Led by the president of IFEJ, Raybon Bulley, he explained that the visit enabled the media practitioners to appreciate the nuances of the publishing industry and to make them better informed.

We came here today to educate ourselves on the publishing industry so that we will be better informed when dealing with industry players as well as appreciate the good and the bad of the industry, Bulley noted”

The Marketing Manager of Winmat Publishers, Samuel Kwaku Adiasany, observed that what sets the company apart is its strong ethical culture. He explained, the company demonstrates honesty, fairness and openness in all its interactions.

One of our ethics is that we don’t print or sell text books that has not been approved by National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA),” he emphasized.

Again, he said “From time to time, we conduct research into areas where books are needed. We then look for local authors who are experts in those subject areas, commission them to write, work in collaboration with them in the preparation of the manuscript and publish books to fill vital areas.”

He further noted that, most clients prefer Winmat because of reliability and quality assurance.

Winmat whose primary business is producing educational text books for both public and private schools have been around since 2015.

Winmat Publishers Limited has been actively involved in developing local authorship skills not only in creative writing but in other areas like educational textbooks as well.

The company currently publishes textbooks, atlases, wall maps, wall chats, globes and supplementary readers for pre-school, primary, secondary, and technical institutions in Ghana, Sierra Leone and Liberia. Marketing and distributing our books through various booksellers/bookshops, libraries and by direct contact with schools and other book users.

Winmat strives to be the preferred publishing house in West Africa, imparting knowledge through the timely provision of high quality and relevant educational materials for all ages and in all formats.

The facility visit was made possible by the UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce, where Winmat Publishers is a member.

The UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce (UKGCC) was established in 2016, with the support of the UK Government’s Department for International Trade (DIT), as a member-based trade association to facilitate and promote bilateral trade between the UK and Ghana via the three platforms of networking, advocacy and trade services.
