As the world marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Liz Ulunma Asomugha, a Gender Advocate and Centre Leader at the Centre for Gender and Technology, AUST, Abuja, has urged every woman to join the campaign to end gender-based violence.
Behind every statistic is a woman or girl whose life has been affected by violence. We can change this story. Yes, we can,” Asomugha said, emphasizing the need for collective action.
Asomugha, who made the call on November 25, 2025 as the world marks international day for the elimination of violence against women, called on governments to criminalize digital violence, citing the alarming statistic that 58% of women have been victims of online violence. She also urged tech companies to build safer platforms, saying, “Today, I call on government through the Ministry of Women Affairs to criminalise digital violence.”
Commending women and girls who speak out against violence, Asomugha said, “I commend the women and girls who speak without fear of violence online and offline.”
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign, which runs from November 25 to December 10, aims to raise awareness and inspire action to end all forms of violence against women and girls.
