As a way of improving customer’s experience and prolonging engine life of Toyota vehicles, Toyota Ghana Limited has introduced the highest grade of motor oil onto the automobile market.
The product tested for four million kilometres is manufactured with the latest technology and specification.
The lubricant comes in three variants; 0W-20 SP for only petrol engine and 5W-30 SP and 15W-40 CI-4 for both petrol and diesel engine.
Representing Managing Director, Kohji Yanaka, at a garage seminar and official launch of the product in Tema, Head of Sales Operations at Toyota Ghana, Andrew Lamptey said “Toyota Genuine Motor Oil (TGMO) is specially formulated with optimum cleaning and protection capabilities for your Toyota vehicle. It also provides complete engine protection against friction and heat stress for better performance and maximum engine life”, he said.
For him, using motor oil not suitable for Toyota vehicle creates unwanted particle build-up in the engine, thereby causing the oil to deteriorate faster and reduce the engine’s overall life.
The product also has the ability to perform in extreme temperatures and driving conditions and is expected to improve performance of the Toyota engine.

The lubricant is manufactured by Idemitsu in the United Arab Emirates and is based on the America Petroleum Institute (API) standards and has technical approval from Toyota Motor Corporation.
With over 100 years of experience in producing lubricant, Idemitsu is credited with having manufactured about 90% of the engine oil of all Toyota vehicles.
The company also manufactures 100% of the engine oil for the Lexus brand, affirming the great relationship between the car manufacturer and Idemitsu.
The synthetic oil is said to have slow deterioration rate, evaporates slowly as well as viscosity level changing slowly compared to mineral oil.
Sales Manager for Idemitsu Lube, Middle East and Africa, Bala Balakrishnan sees this as an opportunity for all customers of Toyota to make use of high quality product at a very affordable price.
Using the product far outweighs its high cost of production. It is the best product in the market and the only recommended one for Toyota engine,” he said.
He however cautioned against purchasing from aftermarket which might compromise on quality.
According to him, a few countries currently use SP which is the highest grade.
Ghana is the first country in the West African subregion to launch this SP grade of TGMO and this is not even available in most of the Western world,” he said.
Meanwhile, After Sales Manager at Toyota Ghana, Seidu Iddrisu was particular about how the motor oil increases fuel economy of their vehicles, saying “with the launch of TGMO, customers of Toyota will no longer rely on generic engine oil for their vehicles.”
Touching on pricing, he said the oil will have competitive price despite its highest quality.
For Toyota Ghana, its 11 outlets and networks will not be enough to cover the entire country and will be liaising with garages which will serve as wholesalers who will enjoy 20% discount.
With questions and contributions, participants were excited to have an eye-opening session from Toyota Ghana.
