The approach to farming is gradually changing to include high-powered technology, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said.
The Vice President stated that in order to confirm to the 4th industrial revolution, there was a need for farming to include emerging technologies in Artificial Intelligence (AI), blockchain and the internet.
Dr Bawumia said these on Tuesday, 28 November, 2023, when he commissioned the Siriboe Institute of Agribusiness and Skills Development.
The institute is located at Juaben in the Ashanti Region, established by Nana Yaw Sarpong Siriboe, the 2022 National Best Farmer.
The 700-seater capacity facility, with spaces for formal lectures, demonstrations and workshops, a creche for young mothers to enable them gain knowledge without sacrificing their maternal obligations, a cafeteria and a practical demonstration farm was established with his prize money Ghc 1 million for winning the 2022 Best Farmer Award, resources from his farm (Siriboe Farms) and his personal savings.
Dr Bawumia said in a Facebook post after commissioning the institute that “I urged the gathering that the future of agriculture is no more about simple farming tools.
“The emerging technologies in Artificial Intelligence, blockchain, internet of things, etc are now the way to go to make agriculture smart in conformity to the 4th Industrial Revolution.”
“This is one of the ways to make agriculture attractive to this new generation so we should align,” he stressed.
