SMEs Praise MTN Business for Supporting Sector Growth

Participants at the just ended MTN Business SME Month have commended MTN for its innovative initiative, which supports and promotes the growth of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).

Madam Blessed Jemima Atuahene, Team Lead of Evergreen Blessed Enterprise, producers of healthy hair products, expressed gratitude to MTN Business for recognizing SMEs and providing aid. She noted improvements in the second edition of the SME Fair compared to the first.

Speaking with Mohammed Abubakari-Sidick, Senior Manager of Business Sales at MTN, he explained that the initiative was motivated by market research and stakeholder engagements, which revealed the significant challenges faced by SMEs in the country.

As part of the SME Month celebrations, MTN Business offered skills development trainings to participating SMEs, in partnership with SMEGA and other financial institutions to provide access to credit facilities and soft loans through MTN’s MoMo service.

Sidick emphasized the importance of supporting SMEs, citing the experience of developed countries like the USA and Europe, where SMEs have driven economic growth.

The MTN SME business offers a range of solutions, including SME Plus. This service is for small businesses that prefer to maintain prepaid accounts to manage their expenses. The service bundles Voice, SMS, Data and VAS. SME Plus allows customers to choose from competitively priced packages to meet their business and budget needs

Sidick encouraged participating SMEs to share knowledge from the trainings with their colleagues, to amplify the impact of the program.
