Heavy equipment supplier J.A. Plant Pool (Ghana) Limited has strongly refuted allegations of financial irregularities made by the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine.
The allegations claimed that J.A. Plant Pool received excess payments and engaged in tax evasion under the District Roads Improvement Programme (DRIP) contract.
In a statement, J.A. Plant Pool described the Attorney-General’s comments as a “partial narrative” that could harm its reputation. The company insisted that all transactions under the DRIP contract followed due process and approved procurement procedures. J.A. Plant Pool clarified that the contract sum was $178,704,739.50, not $176 million as quoted, and attributed the discrepancy to a clerical error.
Addressing Tax Evasion Claims
The company dismissed allegations of tax evasion, stating that it had duly declared 99 semi-knocked-down equipment components to the Ghana Revenue Authority and kept them under bonded warehousing arrangements. J.A. Plant Pool emphasized that there was no false declaration or tax evasion.
The company argued that contract prices reflected fair market conditions, awarded through competitive procurement processes. J.A. Plant Pool highlighted the socio-economic benefits of the DRIP programme, including the creation of over 11,000 jobs and training of more than 4,000 mechanics nationwide.
Commitment to National Development
J.A. Plant Pool reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Ghana’s development efforts, stating that it operates within the law and contributes meaningfully to national development.
