Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Rev Dr Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah has debunked claims that he absconded from the country with his entire nuclear family following president Akufo-Addo’s directive to international audit firm, KPMG to audit the $100 million contract the GRA signed with Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML).

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for the North Tongu constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, in a post on his X page Wednesday January 10, 2024 alleged that the GRA Boss absconded from the country following his dubious signing of the $100 million MLS contract.

According to him, Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah who signed the SML contract was allowed to travel out of the country with his entire nuclear family less than 24 hours after President Akufo-Addo’s January 2, 2024 press statement announcing that KPMG has been tasked to carry out an urgent audit into the sleazy affair.

“My unimpeachable and irrefutable tracking of Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Adu Owusu-Amoah reveals that on January 3, 2024, he led his family to swiftly and clandestinely leave the jurisdiction. Exactly a week ago, the entire Owusu-Amoah family departed at 17:10 on TAP Air Portugal, flight TP 1527 from KIA-Terminal 3. Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Adu Owusu-Amoah used an ordinary Ghanaian passport issued on June 14, 2019, with its last four digits being 5283.

“Interestingly, the runaway GRA boss did not travel with his Service Passport with 2702 as its last four digits. A Service Passport which was issued to him as GRA Commissioner-General on October 3, 2019. This development adds another layer of confirmation that Rev. Dr. Owusu-Amoah has not embarked on an official trip,” Hon Ablakwa wrote on his X platform.

The GRA Boss however was spotted on Thursday afternoon, January 11, 2024, a day after the claim by the MP at the premises of the Ring Road, Osu branch of the GRA where he visited as part of his official duty tour.

In a brief interaction with the media, Rev. Ammishaddai denied the report that he run away and said he is in the country offering services to enhance revenue mobilisation for the country.

“I have not run away. There is no cause to run away so nobody should even think that I’ve run away. As you can see, I’m here working to push taxes,” Rev Dr Ammishaddai stated.
