Greater Accra NHIA targets 2m people

The Greater Accra Regional Director of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Bernard Brown has announced that the Authority have put in place comprehensive measures to register close to 2 million people onto the national health insurance scheme to facilitate and support their health needs.

According to him, the Authority has so far said registered 1.7 million people as it is working fervently to bring on board more Ghanaians to become active membership of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) card.

Bernard Brown made this known to the media during the half year 2020 performance review meeting in Accra.

The review of the 2020 performance seeks to build upon the emerging issues and the challenges of last year meeting and how stakeholders can collectively put in place measures to scale up the scheme to be of benefit to the citizenry health needs.

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) district offices under the Greater Accra Region are Ashiaman, Medina, La, Dangbe West, Okai Kwei, Weija, Osu Klottey Adenta, Dangbe East, Kpeshie Ayawaso, AShiedu Keteke, Ablekuma and Tema.

He said the Authority have introduced innovative ways of carrying its operations to the door steps of Ghanaians which forms part of the strategy in enhancing awareness of the importance of being a holder of the NHIS membership identification card, and pointed out that the Authority have embarked on sensitization programmes at places such as markets, churches, schools among others.

The Greater Accra Regional Director said the outbreak of the Coronavirus Pandemic (COVID-19) slowed down the activities and operations of the Authority in reaching out to more people during the lockdown period, but, added that

the necessary protocols have been put in place at all district offices for people to observe as the Authority supports them to go through the registration process”.

Bernard Brown added that Authority have performed creditably and have received the needed resources and the capacity to reach out to people in the Greater Accra Region to help them receive their Membership Identification Card for their health needs.
