The President of the Ghana National Association of ADR Practitioners (GNAAP), Daniel Owusu-Koranteng, has emphasised the need for peaceful elections in the upcoming 2024 polls.

In his address at the 11th Annual General Conference of GNAAP, he stressed that Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) should be an integral part of the electoral process to prevent conflicts and ensure inclusiveness.

Our country has gone through periods of slavery and foreign domination which negatively affected our concept of political leadership… Let us recognize that leadership is a powerful tool for transforming the dreams and aspirations of the electorate into reality,” Owusu-Koranteng said.

The conference theme, “Strengthening Ghana’s Democracy through Dialogue and Inclusiveness: The Role of Alternative Dispute Resolution,” highlighted the importance of peaceful and inclusive elections for national development.

He encouraged political aspirants to prioritise national development and the welfare of citizens, rather than selfish interests.

If political candidates are desirous to serve the interests of the people they represent, they will not promote electoral violence but would rather use the election campaigns to foster unity among the population to achieve national developmental goals,” he added.

According to the President of GNAAP, GNAAP offered free conflict resolution services during and after the elections to prevent electoral violence.

In this regard, he urged citizens to participate in the electoral process and make informed choices to strengthen Ghana’s democracy.

Ghana has enough developmental challenges to occupy political leaders who are desirous to work hard to change the economic development challenges of our country to prosperity… Let us elect political leaders who would enjoy the peace and support of the people for the development of the country,” Owusu-Koranteng emphasised.
