On the third day of our hike up Mount Elbrus, we reached a beautiful lake nestled between two stunning mountains. The water was a mesmerizing mix of light blue and green. It looked calm and inviting.
As we got closer to the lake, Akin and I decided to take a dip. Our guide warned us that the water was extremely cold, but I didn’t want to miss out on the experience. I’d always wondered how people I saw on TV managed to brave freezing water, and now I had my chance to find out.
We quickly changed into our swim gear and waded in. Oh my God, the water was freezing! I dipped my whole body in, except for my head, and felt an instant chill. My feet and legs started to go numb, and I realized it wasn’t a good idea to stay in too long. I got out and talked with Akin about how it felt. He suggested we go in again, and I didn’t want to ruin his excitement, so we did.
Dipping in that icy lake was the highlight of my day. It’s a memory I’ll always treasure.
