Paramount Chief of the Takla Traditional Area, Togbe Adzokoto II has called for calm after the region recorded nine cases of the dreadful pandemic.

All the nine persons who had tested positive for the coronavirus are not resident in the region. While six are foreigners, three are based in the Greater Accra Region. The three were identified through routine surveillance.

A press release signed by the Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, detailed that six out of the nine persons infected with the virus were foreigners who had entered the country through an unapproved route on the Ghana-Togo border.

The Regional Minister further stated that the six who are in mandatory quarantine for the past 14 days are yet to exhibit symptoms of Covid-19 infection.

Dr. Letsa indicated that a 48-year-old man who apparently escaped from the lockdown in Accra begun showing symptoms 12 days after his return. He is currently receiving treatment in an isolation centre in Ho.

In the Hohoe Municipality, a 22-year-old pregnant woman who had returned from Ashaiman to deliver in Hohoe, developed symptoms two weeks after her arrival. According to the Minister, she and her baby are clinically stable in an isolation centre.

The ninth case involves a 32-year-old man who travelled to Hohoe from Tema prior to the lockdown. He is in a stable condition and had been isolated since he was suspected. The release revealed.

The Paramount Chief whose communities are not too far away from one of the routes into the Republic of Togo share in the fear of his subjects.

The route which is often used by travellers is said to be the shortest entry into the Volta Regional capital, Ho from the Republic of Togo.

Togbe Ayim Adzokoto has asked that residents follow the World Health Organization’s prescriptions of hand washing regularly for 20 seconds, the measure of social distancing, avoidance of handshakes amongst others.

He again said that it is in wisdom that stakeholders are putting in measures to curb the menace. He called for support for the poor saying “The well to do must support the underprivileged in this trying times” he told Kofi Adzivor in an interview.

He again called on corporate Ghana and individuals to support the only health facility in the area which serves the over 3,000 residents with PPE.

Takla is a traditional area in the Ho Municipality that include of Gborgame, Tokor, Nyekornakpoe, Atiyinu, Mafi-Kope and Agbokope. Residents in these communities rely on tilling the land for survival.
It is estimated that a sizeable percentage of farm produce, sent to the Ho Central market, comes from the Takla Traditional Area.
