Former Arsenal and Ivory Coast star Emmanuel Eboué has shared a very emotional story that is touching many hearts. In recent interviews, the 42-year-old defender talked about how his divorce left him with almost nothing. He lost houses, cars, money, and even contact with his three children. But the biggest pain came when he saw his son sign for Chelsea Academy without him there.
Eboué said his wife divorced him close to his retirement. He had put all his properties in her name, thinking it was safe. But after the divorce (finalised around 2017), the court gave her almost everything. “I lost everything in England – three houses, cars, millions. I lost my three kids too,” he explained. For years, he could not see his children or even get recent photos of them.
The painful moment came earlier this year when his son, Mathis Eboué (17), signed his first professional contract with Chelsea FC Academy in London in February 2026. Eboué was not there and did not even know about it until later. “I feel very sad because when he signed for Chelsea, I wasn’t there. We hadn’t spoken in four or five years. I cried when I saw it,” he said with tears. He taught his son how to play football when they were together, so missing this big day hurt him deeply.
Eboué, who played over 200 games for Arsenal and won the FA Cup, said the divorce left him broke and alone. “I was very down. I cried every day,” he added. He is now trying to rebuild his life and hopes to reconnect with his children one day.
