Vivo Energy Ghana, has been adjudged the CSR Company of the year at the 10th Ghana CSR Excellence Awards 2023. The event was held on Friday, October 27, 2023 at the Marriott Hotel in Accra. It was put together by the CSR West Africa.
Vivo Energy Ghana also bagged the CSR Initiative/Project of the Year Award while its Corporate Communications Manager, Shirley Tony Kum, also went home with the ultimate CSR Practitioner of the Year Award.
Vivo Energy Ghana is a subsidiary of Vivo Energy which has and operates in 23 countries across Africa. Their core activities include the supply, storage, distribution, and retail of a wide range of petroleum products. Vivo Energy is a Shell and Engen Petroleum licensee and sources, distributes, markets and supplies fuels and lubricants.
Among the companies that were recognized at the event for their outstanding performances for the was Vodafone Ghana which received the CSR Award for Health. The company also emerged tops as the CSR Telecom Company of the Year.
Lumiere Group bagged CSR Awards for Community Development of the year while Blue Skies Company grabbed CSR Awards for Education of the Year. World Vision went home with CSR SDG Partnership and the CSR NGO of the Year Awards, while QNET’s CSR arm – Rythm Foundation was adjudged the CSR Youth and Disability Inclusion Award of the Year.
Stratcom Africa won the CSR Award for Greening Environmental Sanitation of the Year, with Amanex also winning the CSR SME Company of the Year Award. The CSR Savings and Loans Company of the Year went to ASA Savings and Loans Limited.
Blay and Associates grabbed the CSR Consultancy Company of the Year Award while Vicbens Engineering Company won the CSR Engineering Company of the Year Award. Coconut Groove Beach and Resort won the CSR Hospitality Company of the Year.
Fidelity Bank emerged as the CSR Bank of the Year Award while its Managing Director, Julian Opuni bagged the prestigious CSR CEO of the year Award.
Coca-Cola company won the CSR Manufacturing Company of the Year Award., and the CSR Aviation Company of the Year Award went to Delta Airlines.
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a business model that helps a company to be socially accountable to itself, its stakeholders, and the public.
Speaking at the event, a Co-Founder and Lead Project Manager for the Centre for CSR West Africa, John Kojo Williams, encouraged the award winners to propagate their projects and awards to encourage other companies to also get socially responsible. This according to him would their key means of contributing to the country’s economic development.
CSR aims to contribute to societal goals of a philanthropic, activist, or charitable nature by engaging in, with, or supporting professional service volunteering through pro bono programs, community development, administering monetary grants to non-profit organizations for the public benefit, or to conduct ethically oriented business and investment practices.
