Upper East Police urges public to support Covid-19 fight

The Upper East Regional Police Command is calling on the general public to support in the fight against covid-19.

According to the Regional Police Command, even though the adherence to the Covid-19 preventive protocols is encouraging in the region, there should be a collective effort by all stakeholders to ensure the safety of people.

Speaking to the press on Thursday February 11, 2021, after sanitation officers from Zoomlion disinfected police facilities and barracks in the Upper East region, the Public Relations Officer, ASP David Fianko-Okyere, said there are still some recalcitrant individuals who refuse to obey the rules.

He cited that, “over the weekend, a group of individuals attempted to hold a funeral ceremony but took to their heels when they saw the police approaching”. He therefore advised the public to understand that these measures are being implemented for their own safety.

He observed that the disinfection exercise being carried out across the country was very significant and timely since it will ensure the safety of the police personnel as well as boost their morale to continue to engage the public.

ASP Fianko-Okyere mentioned that the Police Welfare Directorate has been periodically proving the needed materials and PPEs to the police personnel but stressed that corporate bodies and other individuals could also assist the police force with some of the materials since they are perishable but essential.

Police facilities across Bolgatanga, Mirigu, Paga and other surrounding communities were all disinfected in this second phase of disinfection.

Regional Operations Manager Stephen Aduko Anafo on his part mentioned that a total of 26 police facilities have been disinfected in this particular exercise.
