Sanitation Ministry clears dump sites at Cape Coast University

The Assemblyman for the Old Site Apewosika Electoral Area in Cape Cost- Central Region, Francis Egyir, has called on the sanitation officers to provide more rubbish containers to help residents desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

The Assemblyman explained that, there was no other place for the residents to dispose of thier refuse therefore the containers will greatly help in regulating improper disposals.

The Assemblyman made the call during the dumpsite evacuation exercise to rid three communities within the University of Cape Coast; Akotokyiri, Amamoma and Kwesipra of refuse

He mentioned that the poor state of the dump sites was affecting both the residents and the students of UCC.

Gloria Mensah, a level 300 student at UCC, whose hostel is located near Amamoma  dumpsite, said the nuisance from the dumpsite has been very unbearable especially when it rains sometimes affecting their ability to go for lectures due to the messy nature of the surroundings.

Apart from the usual stench that we battle with daily, when it rains, it becomes difficult to go to lectures because the whole place is messy,” she lamented.

Ama Ntim, a resident who express satisfaction over the exercise, prayed that other residents will follow the rules in disposing off their refuse after the evacuation exercise.

The dumpsite evacuation exercise is a national exercise being undertaken by the Ministry of Sanitation in partnership with the MMDAs, and it forms part of the President’s vision of making the country one of the cleanest country in the sub-region.
