Farming Academy partners Agrofeed to set up feed mill at Kwabeng

A Ghanaian poultry company, Farming Academy is partnering with Agrofeed, a Hungarian company to establish a modern feed mill at Kwabeng in the Atiwa West District in the Eastern Region.

The mill would produce feed on a large scale which would be used to cater for the Kwabeng- based Farming Academy and other poultry farms in the region to enable them to produce high-quality birds and eggs for the Ghanaian and international markets.

The project would offer employment opportunities to a large number of unemployed youth in the area and surrounding communities, who would be engaged to work in the company.

Announcing the partnership at a short ceremony at Kwabeng on Tuesday October 26, 2021, the Chief Executive Officer) of Farming Academy, Kwadwo Bempong Adom observed that the establishment of the mill will help provide quality feed to poultry farmers within the catchment area and beyond as well as provide job opportunity for the youth.

The feed mill will help address the alarming rate of unemployment in this community and even beyond. Which will then address the poverty rate and curb urban migration.,” he noted.

He explained that initially, he ventured into rearing of ruminant but faced several challenges and had to venture into poultry.

The idea of poultry culminated into another idea of attaching it with a mill to make feeds for the farm’s poultry and those of others in the area and region,” he said.

The Export Business Director of Agrofeed, Ákos Mezőlaki , expressing his satisfaction about the partnership stated that Agrofeed is well poised for the challenge adding that the company is already in 25 other countries in Europe and Africa including Ghana.

We are ready for this partnership and we want to see both companies to succeed and provide jobs for Ghanaians,” he emphasized.

The Ghana National Egg Campaign Secretariate (GNECS), an institution championing the advantages of egg eating, seized the opportunity to promote the egg eating and also shared boiled eggs to the invited guests.

Comfort Acheampong, the national coordinator of GNECS, noted that a couple of years back egg consumption in the country was very poor until the formation of GNECS which came to promote it to an appreciable level.

Kwabena Kusi, a Public Health Specialist with the Ghana Health Service on his part enumerated several benefits of eggs. He explained that egg contain choline and other unique antioxidants and powerful brain nutrients that many people are deficient in.

The choline helps in brain development and is also good for adults who tend to suffer from forgetfulness,” he explained.

Eggs also contain good cholesterol which is good for the human body contrary to rumours and misinformation that egg is full of bad cholesterol which negatively affects the body.

There are two types of cholesterol; good and bad and egg contains the good cholesterol so I urge you all to eat eggs at least once a day” he advised.

He further advised that egg contains small amounts of almost every vitamin and mineral required by the human body, including calcium, iron, potassium, zinc, manganese, vitamin E and many more, therefore children from 6 months upwards should be given eggs regularly

As we age its normal for our vision to start to deteriorate but there are some useful nutrients, obtained from a balanced diet, which may help support eye health. Eggs are one example of an eye-friendly food.” He noted.

The yolk contains large amounts of carotenes, of particular note are lutein and zeaxanthin, which are important for preventing macular degeneration and cataracts. Eggs are also a source of vitamin A which is key for good eye sight.

He mentioned that eating eggs regularly also helps in improving libido and encouraged men to rather eat eggs regularly rather than resort to aphrodisiacs.
