Aburi Girls and Ofori Panin Senior High Schools and St. Paul Technical School this morning benefited from the third phase of the disinfection exercise of SHSs in the Eastern Region.
The seven-day exercise, which kick-started simultaneously on Wednesday September 23, 2020 with SHSs in four regions namely Greater Accra, Central, Eastern and Upper West was to pave way for the reopening of SHSs for Form Two students on October 5th, 2020.
Facilities disinfected in the schools included dining halls, assembly halls, administration blocks, libraries, ICT blocks, dormitories, bungalows, classrooms among others.
Some of the schools disinfected on the first day in the Eastern Region were Osiem SHS, New Juaben SHS, Koforidua Secondary Technical, Koforidua Technical Institute, Ghana Senior High School among others.
At the Ofori Panin SHS (OPASS), the Headmaster, John Kofi Beantey Jnr, said the school has put in measures to prevent the spread of covid-19. He explained that a maximum of 25 students would be kept in a class and 18 students per a dormitory.
He, however, stressed the need to support the school with more PPEs particularly face masks and hand sanitizers to protect the students. The school is expecting a total of 917 second year students when school reopens in October.
He commended Zoomilion for the continuous exercise and the government for managing the pandemic successfully and asked that everyone adheres to the preventive measures to curb the spread of the disease.
From OPASS, the team moved to the St. Paul Technical School at Kukurantumi in the Abuakwa North Municipal which saw the school’s facilities disinfected.
Speaking to journalists, the Eastern Regional Manager of Zoomlion, George Aguadze, revealed that the exercise will cover 140 SHSs and technical schools and over 2000 basic schools in the region and the exercise is expected to be completed by Saturday.
He commended the regional education director and the various heads of the school for their corporation in ensuring the success of the disinfection exercise.
