The government has so far invested over GHc500 million in housing projects of varying sizes for the Armed Forces. The government is also using part of the funds in refurbishing the Military Academy and Training Schools in Teshie.
The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, disclosed this during his presentation of the State of the Nation address on Thursday in Accra on the floor of Parliament.
“Government is tackling the long-standing housing problem that has faced our Armed Forces. Over GH¢500 million is being in housing projects of varying sizes for the men and women of the Armed Forces,” he stated.
He added that the government has also retooled and equipped Armed Forces to keep them in the desired state of readiness to continue to perform creditably in discharging their duty of defending the territorial integrity of the country.
According to the President, when the government amended L.I 1332, which extended the run-out date from 25 years to 30 years for the ‘Other Ranks’, it led to the creation of new ranks within the structures of the Armed Forces, and to a subsequent rationalisation of wages and salaries for all ranks within the Forces.
