The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) recorded a mixed performance in the equities market during the week ended August 14, 2026, with market capitalisation increasing while trading activity declined sharply.
Market capitalisation rose by 1.43% to GH¢288.90 billion from GH¢284.84 billion the previous week, according to the GSE’s weekly equities market report.
The GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI) also gained 0.79% during the week to close at 15,307.71 points, while the GSE Financial Stock Index (GSE-FSI) increased by 1.19% to 8,116.98 points.
Despite the positive movement in the key market indicators, trading activity weakened considerably. Total volume traded fell by 22.16% to 10.06 million shares, from 12.92 million shares in the preceding week.
Value traded recorded a sharper decline, dropping 46.14% from GH¢58.20 million to GH¢31.35 million.
Das Pharma leads weekly gainers
Das Pharma emerged as the best-performing stock during the week, with its share price rising 55.77% from GH¢0.52 to GH¢0.81. The stock has now gained 113.16% since the beginning of the year.
Digicut followed with a 44.44% weekly gain, increasing from GH¢0.09 to GH¢0.13, while Clyd rose 32.92% from GH¢4.89 to GH¢6.50.
Hords gained 18.18%, while SIC increased by 16.70%. Unilever Ghana, ETI and CAL also recorded gains during the week.
MTN Ghana’s share price edged up 0.57% to GH¢7.04, bringing its year-to-date gain to 67.62%.
IIL records biggest decline
Intravenous Infusions PLC (IIL) was the worst-performing stock during the week, falling 13.21% from GH¢0.53 to GH¢0.46. Despite the weekly decline, the stock remained up 820% year-to-date.
Benso Oil Palm Plantation (BOPP) declined 2.49%, while SOGEGH fell 2.33%. Access Bank Ghana, Fan Milk, GCB Bank and Allianz Ghana also recorded marginal declines.
The average price change for the week stood at 9.73%.
MTN Ghana dominates trading value
MTN Ghana emerged as the most actively traded stock by value, accounting for GH¢15.97 million in transactions during the week.
Kasapreko Company Limited followed with GH¢2.38 million, while GCB Bank recorded GH¢2.02 million. GOIL and BOPP completed the top five by value traded.
In terms of volume, IIL led with approximately 2.35 million shares traded, followed by MTN Ghana with 2.27 million shares. Kasapreko recorded 1.19 million shares, while Digicut and CAL recorded 1.10 million and 1.04 million shares respectively.
The figures indicate that while investor interest continued to support selected counters and lift overall market capitalisation, aggregate trading activity weakened significantly during the week.
