A tragic accident has claimed the life of a National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) taskforce member, while four others were injured in a motor accident near Obuasi Airport in the Ashanti Region.
The team was on a mission to combat illegal mining, also known as galamsey, when the accident occurred. The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased and wishes the injured team members a speedy recovery.¹ ²
We remain steadfast in our commitment to safeguarding the welfare of all frontline personnel and will ensure they receive the utmost support and care,” the Ministry stated.
An investigation into the accident is underway. The loss of the NAIMOS team member highlights the risks faced by those fighting against illegal mining in Ghana.
