25 years of MTN: First 250 customers get expensive smartphones
MTN Ghana is giving away a US$1,000 worth smartphone each to the first 250 customers who joined the network back in 1996 when it started as Spacefon.
The gesture is part of activities earmarked to celebrate the company’s 25 years of operating in Ghana.
This first 250 customers, as well as the first 2,500 customers of MTN Ghana, also stand to get a special 3 hours a day on-net airtime plus 2.5GB data package for the month of June.
Chief Marketing Officer of MTN Ghana, Noel Kojo Ganson announced this at a media encounter to give details of the MTN rewards packages designed to excite customers as the telecoms market leaders marks its 25th Anniversary.
He said apart from the packages for the first 250 and first 2,500, every customer of MTN have also started enjoying an allowance of 25 free minutes for every first on-net call every day in the month of June.
Additionally, MTN is running a daily rewards promo, in which customers gain points as they use the various services on the network – call, SMS, data and mobile money – and stand to win air time, data, devices plus one person will win GHC5,000 every day in daily draws.
Noel Ganson further announced that customers can also use their points to redeem free airtime, data and or use the points to get discounts as selected grocery shops like Melcom, or restaurants like Potbelly Shack among others.

He said the points gathered from using MTN also qualifies customers to participates in a promo to win one of 25 luxury cars available to be won across the entire year.
We have various brands of cars available to be won and the draws have been designed in the way to ensure that customers from all 16 regions of the country stand a chance of winning,” he said.
Ganson said in the cause of the year, MTN would also be launching a revolutionary technological innovation, which would be a first in the industry and would change the way customers interact with the company.
Already, MTN had announced that it is now embarking on a new strategy dubbed Ambition 2025, designed to make the network a platform player that allows various digital services outside of MTN to plug and play and popularize digital services across the country.
Noel Ganson also said during the MTN Mobile Money month this year, the company would also be introducing mobile money specific promotions to excite customers even some more.
He took the opportunity caution customers that none of the promos would require customers to buy airtime, send mobile money or do any transaction other than just using MTN services normally to gain points.
If you win any reward it would either come to your phone directly or we would only call you with 0244300000 and communicate how to get your reward – so if you get a call from any other number telling you to buy airtime or send mobile money to redeem you prize it is fake,” he warned.
Regarding the first 250 and first 2,500 customers, the CMO said special customized voice messages from the MTN CEO and other top executives have been sent to them to let them know the package for them.
